How Notulee works — from your first note to power-user search and export. Written for the version shipping soon.

Notulee is a keyboard-driven scratchpad with superpowers: plain-text notes where math, conversions, variables and checklists just work, live, as you type. Nothing here requires an account or a connection — it all runs on your machine.

These docs describe the product that’s coming soon. The desktop app isn’t out yet, but you can already try the full app right in your browser — see the live demo.

The whole idea in one line: write a number, give it a name, reuse it anywhere — change it once and every total follows.

In this guide

  • Getting started — What Notulee is, the handful of concepts that make it tick, and how to run it today.
  • Math, units & currency — Calculate in plain prose, and convert money and measures inline.
  • Reactive variables — Name a value once, reuse it everywhere, and let totals update themselves.
  • Checklists & lists — Track work inline, with a live count of what's left.
  • Search & export — Find anything across every note, and take your notes with you.
  • Keyboard & desktop — The native desktop niceties that make Notulee feel instant.
