Keyboard & desktop
Every keyboard shortcut, and the native desktop niceties that make Notulee feel instant.
Notulee is designed to be summoned, used and dismissed without reaching for the mouse.
This page shows the Windows shortcuts. On a Mac, Notulee follows Mac habits (⌘W to close, ⌃⌘← to go back) — see the Mac shortcuts. This page shows the Mac shortcuts — Notulee follows Mac habits (⌘W to close, ⌃⌘← to go back) rather than translating the Windows chords. On Windows? See the Windows shortcuts.
Every shortcut below is a default — you can rebind any of them under Settings → Shortcuts.
Summon from anywhere
A global hotkey toggles the Notulee window from any application:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Alt+N⌃⌥N | Show / hide Notulee (global) |
Because it’s global, you can capture a thought mid-task and get back to what you were doing in a couple of keystrokes.
Notes
Create, move through and manage notes — including the starter set — without leaving the keyboard:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+N or Alt+N⌘N | New note |
| Ctrl+] or Alt+Down⌘] or ⌥↓ | Next note |
| Ctrl+[ or Alt+Up⌘[ or ⌥↑ | Previous note |
| Alt+Left / Alt+Right⌃⌘← / ⌃⌘→ | Back / forward through the notes you’ve opened (the mouse side buttons work too) |
| Ctrl+1⌘1 | Move note to the front of the list |
| Ctrl+F4⌘W | Close note (desktop app — in the browser, ⌘W belongs to the browser tab) |
| Ctrl+Shift+Backspace⇧⌘⌫ | Delete note (with an Undo toast) |
Shortcuts start working the moment you Alt+Tab⌘Tab back to Notulee — you don’t need to click into the window first.
Find & replace
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+F⌘F | Find in the current note — every match highlighted live |
| Ctrl+H⌥⌘F | Replace in the current note (⌘H is macOS Hide, so Notulee follows Xcode here) |
| Ctrl+Shift+F⇧⌘F | Search across all notes |
Inside the find widget, Enter or Up/Down jump between matches, and Esc drops the cursor right after the active match. See Search & export.
Everything else
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+,⌘, | Open settings |
| Ctrl+B⌘B | Dock / undock the notes list |
| Ctrl+Shift+T⇧⌘T | Theme switcher — type to filter, arrow to preview live, Del to delete |
| Alt+K⌥⌘K | Clean up text |
| Alt+R⌥⌘R | Refresh exchange rates |
| Esc | Close the open panel |
Why not plain ⌥K / ⌥R? On a Mac, Option+letter types special characters (⌥K is ˚), so these live on ⌥⌘ chords instead.
Desktop only
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Alt+P⌥⌘P | Toggle always-on-top |
| Alt+C⌥⌘C | Toggle capture mode |
Window behaviours
The desktop shell can pin the window on top while you work in another app, and show or hide on demand for quick capture. Double-click the title bar to maximize the window (or restore it), on both Windows and macOS. Launching Notulee when it’s already running simply brings the existing window to the front — you’ll only ever have one. Light and dark themes follow your taste — or your system.
The same list lives in the app under Settings → Shortcuts, where every chord can be rebound.
